Become A Tattoo Artist in Syracuse
Syracuse Tattoo Apprenticeship
Now Serving the Greater Syracuse Area
Ink Different Tattoos now offers its Tattoo Apprenticeship program in Central New York. Aspiring Tattoo Artists in Syracuse and the surrounding towns can train for a professional career with a studio partner that puts meaning at the center of every tattoo.
Training at Therapeutic Ink
The Syracuse Tattoo Apprenticeship program is hosted at Therapeutic Ink, a Syracuse studio founded by Tattoo Artist Scott Crandall.
Therapeutic Ink is built on a simple idea: a tattoo can help a person heal. Clients come in with stories of loss, struggle and resilience, and the team works with them to turn those stories into art they are proud to wear. The atmosphere is safe, intentional and deeply human.
At this studio, apprentices learn to deliver:
- Custom tattoo design built around a client's story.
- Meaningful, intention-driven pieces.
- Clean, technically strong tattoo work.
- Thoughtful placement and composition.
Few studios treat the bond between artist and client with this much care. Training here teaches you how to listen, how to design with purpose and how to make every client feel seen, skills that serve a Tattoo Artist for an entire career.

Scott Crandall - Founder of Therapeutic Ink
The Syracuse Tattoo Apprenticeship program is led by Scott Crandall, founder of Therapeutic Ink and a Tattoo Artist whose own life was changed by the craft.
Scott came to tattooing after working through serious personal challenges. Learning to tattoo gave him purpose, rebuilt his confidence and became a central part of his recovery. That experience now shapes every session he runs, treating each tattoo as a collaboration rather than just a technical job.
Clients bring Scott their stories of hardship and healing, and he meets them with the understanding of someone who has been there. He holds his apprentices to the same standard: the work must be excellent, and the client must feel respected from start to finish.
As a Mentor within the Ink Different network, Scott provides apprentices with instruction in:
- Professional tattoo technique and disciplined practice.
- Connecting with clients, including those in vulnerable moments.
- Creating a safe, respectful studio environment.
- Designing tattoos with intention and meaning.
- Sanitation, safety standards and professional ethics.
